Kas - Culture

Kas is a small picturesque town, first mentioned in Lycian times as Antiphellos. Apart from overcrowded tourist places it still has its typical scenery. Small white houses with wooden balconies, the traditional market on Fridays, boats that take you to different places like Kekova or the Greek island of Kastellorizon from the lovely small harbour. The harbour town of Kas is located on the coast which extends from Antalya to Fethiye. Traces of ancient civilizations still remain, for example the Hellenic amphitheater, tombs, sarcophagus and ruins of ancient city walls.

Kas is home to one of the finest diving schools on the Mediterranean. Here ex-navy diving specialists will introduce you to cave diving, sponge diving, drift diving, the fabulous amphora field and even some fascinating shipwrecks. There is also a wide variety of water sports. For those privileged to stay in Kas, some of Turkey's most beautiful sights and historic sites are within comfortable reach of the village. Friendly Kas with its palm-shaded promenades and its picturesque peninsula reaching out to the Greek islands. Narrow cobble stone lanes packed with shops spilling out their wares of trinkets and carpets are a delightful feature of Kas. Cruises on the Mediterranean Sea near the Greek Aegean on board a yacht, built in the traditional pirate ship style and more. Charter, boat specifications, events, cruises, you can have everything in kas.

Turkish People enjoy the good life, particularly when it comes to eating. The cuisine has a lot to offer, especially the appetizers . In the town itself are tea gardens under palm trees, cossie restaurants with local specialties, as well as bars and discotheques, but still without the hustle and bustle of tourist towns.
