Abadan - Culture

One of the traditional centers in the Middle East for the refining of petroleum and the shipment of petroleum products was Abadan. The city of Abadan is located approximately 33 miles (53 kilometers) from the Persian Gulf on an island in the Shatt al 'Arab, a stream formed by the junction of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Abadan used to be United Nation of Iran, all types of people, cultures and races were mixed and so created their own language. When two Abadanis got together 25 years ago not that much of their language could be understood 100% by other Iranians.

This large (pop. 308,000) oil-refinery boomtown, located at the junction of the Karun and Arvandrud Rivers, was largely destroyed during the Iran-Iraq War. Before the war, Abadan had a fairly good museum now, there is not a lot thinks to see travellers should check conditions before going to the area.
